Interview with Simon Logan!

The blog Criminal-E has posted a review with Simon Logan about Katja from the Punk Band, and about the writing and publishing process in general.

"What do you look for in a good book?

Interesting ideas and characters which are well-executed, basically. I think if you’re going to spend a year (or however long it takes) writing a book then why produce something that is similar, if not identical, to a lot of stuff already out there? For me, writing is about expressing myself, about creating something that adds something or pushes at boundaries so I tend to hone in on books and authors who are quite unique in style or ideas."

Another Publishers' Weekly review...

...This time for Gemma Files' A ROPE OF THORNS.
" Potent mythology, complex characters, and dollops of creeping horror and baroque gore establish Files's Hexslinger series as a top-notch horror-fantasy saga."

ESC Review & Interview with Tom Piccirilli

Horror blog The Tomb of Dark Delights calls EVERY SHALLOW CUT "Tom Piccirilli writing at his grittiest, darkest best. Bleakness and anguish seethe on every page this heart-stopping story crafted in hues of utter desolation."

The site also has an insightful interview with Piccirilli up.
"
TK: Your work seems to make a particularly good fit with noir. Why?
TP: Maybe because I tend to write with some sense of sardonic humor. It tends to color most of the gut-wrenching stuff without lightening it at all. We all know that life is a tragi-comedy. One facet seems to underscore the other. The funnier something is, the more of a set-up it is for when the bottom drops out. And when you crash and burn, that's the perfect time to make a joke. In your darkest hour you cry until you laugh and laugh until you cry. "

Eutopia review and CZP shoutout at Barnes & Noble

The B&N Community blog has a pretty darn great review of EUTOPIA up: "Horror and dark fantasy fans who are glorying in the new generation of brilliant writers like Laird Barron, John Langan, Brian Hodge, Kaaron Warren, etc. should better add David Nickle to that list. He’s that good."

The review also concludes with this aside: "And additional kudos go out to ChiZine Publications. I’ve reviewed almost a dozen of their releases over the last few years... and have not been disappointed once." Sweet!

The National Post reviews Eutopia!

Alex Good of The National Post has given his two cents on David Nickle's EUTOPIA! He writes, "Toronto author David Nickle’s debut novel... establishes him as a worthy heir to the mantle of Stephen King. And I don’t mean the King of Under the Dome or other recent flops, but the master of psychological suspense who ruled the ’80s with classics like Pet Sematary."

Tom Piccirilli brings us a suspense story for our current struggling times, taken directly from a broken heart. It is full of realism, grit, and a depth of the dark streets that give voice to the fears most of us can barely imagine." -Lee Thompson, The Crow's Caw

Interview with Tom Piccirilli!

Darkeva's Dark Delights has a fascinating interview up with Tom Piccirilli, author of Every Shallow Cut.

"Question: What made you use such an intimate narrative in EVERY SHALLOW CUT and why all the imagined stream of consciousness scenarios?

PIC: Well, it’s an intimate story, so there really was no other way to tell it. I wanted to write the most noir kind of fiction I was capable of, but do it outside the confines of genre. ...People who are really stressed out tend to have vivid bad dreams. Their thoughts slither around and jump wildly from one topic to the next. When you’re frazlled your head is all over the place."

Eutopia reviewed at All Things Horror

"Nickle comes from a different cut of cloth than a lot of current horror authors. ...he understands that the most important ingredients are strong characters, originality, and a compelling story. That his novel is also dark, frightening, and beautifully written is just icing on the cake."

Objects of Worship "absolutely enthralling"

"Every world is fully realized; they're rich and vibrant and disturbing all at the same time--real worlds full of impossible things. ...I found it absolutely enthralling, and it's rare anymore that I find something I put firmly into the 'couldn't put it down' category.
